Bhutan: Innovative Ways to Spread the Gospel
In Bhutan, Christians have long faced persecution, and in 2024, the situation took a darker turn. As the cost of living skyrocketed, the government introduced a series of new, restrictive policies that further marginalized the Christian community. Church buildings are now illegal, and those who openly identify with Christ risk losing their employment, benefits, and even their rights as citizens. One of the most oppressive measures was a law prohibiting any gathering of more than 30 people without prior approval from the state. This has forced our missionaries to adapt quickly, dividing their congregations into small, underground house groups to continue their work in secrecy.
Yet, amidst these growing challenges, there was a silver lining. The availability of the internet and mobile devices increased, opening new avenues for ministry. Churches and Christian organizations began leveraging digital platforms to share the message of hope, reaching people in new innovative and strategies ways. Our sponsored missionaries are passionate about expanding God's kingdom, reaching unreached communities, and establishing new house churches in strategic locations. The work is difficult and dangerous, but their dedication and courage are an inspiring testament to the resilience of the Christian faith.
Please Pray for wisdom and guidance as our missionaries must navigate the complexities of ministry in Bhutan.
