Nigeria: Leaving it All Behind for Jesus

Dr. Paul Ushie, ministry leader in Nigeria, with Ahmed Saidu at his water baptism.

Our partnered ministry in Nigeria sent us an amazing testimony about a man named Ahmed Saidu, a devoted Muslim who gave up his family and safety to follow Jesus. The ministry leader writes, “Ahmed grew up as a devoted Muslim in northern Nigeria. He became a commercial motorcyclist in our community and was hired to pick up our administrator and bring him to the main town for business. During the short trip, our administrator shared the Gospel with Ahmed. He was so interested that he visited our base to ask more questions about God. Ahmed shared that he had always secretly admired his Christian friend and wanted to be more like him. That same day, he prayed the sinner’s prayer and committed to discipleship immediately! Shortly after, his family noticed that Ahmed had stopped attending the mosque to pray. His own family and Muslim community started to persecute him. When he couldn’t be persuaded or threatened back into Islam, his family made plans to poison Ahmed. One day his sister told him that she prepared a meal for him, which made Ahmed immediately suspicious because she had never cooked for him. He secretly threw away the food and returned the next day. His sister was shocked and angry to see him the next day alive; she said, “If you had eaten my food, you wouldn’t be standing before me now.”

Despite the terrible circumstances Ahmed experienced, two weeks later, he made the decision to be baptized and continue devoting his life to the Lord! Our ministry relocated him because his life would continue to be in danger. Ahmed currently works for the church and is under the discipleship of a pastor.”

Please pray for the protection of our brothers and sisters in Nigeria that risk their lives and are abandoned by their families for Jesus.
