Myanmar: A Safe Haven from War

In 2022, the United Nations reported that child marriages, forced labor, and child sex trafficking rose significantly in Myanmar. For more than 10 years, Global Commission Partners has built rescue centers in this country to protect young children all around the country. In the midst of a civil war, which has resulted in the closure of dozens of schools and hundreds of deaths in Myanmar, GCP has completed recently a Rescue Center that currently houses 25 young girls. We are excited to share that we will soon start the construction of a new rescue center in Yangon, the largest city in Myanmar.

Here is a short report on the reality of many young girls from our ministry leader in Myanmar: “Most of the girls we have at the rescue were victims of the civil war. Young girls living in war zones are often targeted by predatory military men and smugglers. Smugglers are extremely dangerous because they prey upon poor families that are either in need of money or are desperately looking for a better life for their daughters. They promise their families that their young girls will have good jobs and opportunities in China and Thailand but in reality, they end up smuggling (often sneaking them in by lying to immigration about their ages) and selling these girls as mistresses to wealthy men or sex traffickers. Parents in these war-torn areas are more scared than ever for their daughters and have turned to rescue centers like ours as safe havens. We firmly believe that prevention is key and work our hardest to make sure the girls are rescued before any abuse or trafficking can take place. However, it costs around $150-$200 to transport the girls from their remote villages to the rescue center and we have limited resources.”

Please pray for this work and consider helping us rescue these precious ones of the Lord.
