Mosquito Nets: Surviving Monsoon Season

According to multiple news outlets, this year’s monsoon season has had devastating effects across several countries. More than 300 people have lost their lives, and thousands have been displaced due to extreme rainfall and severe weather in Pakistan. India has also experienced a sharp increase in rainfall, forcing hundreds of people from their homes between June and July of this year. In addition to flooding and heavy rainfall, communities are now facing serious health threats. Excess water has created ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes, leading to a sharp rise in dengue fever, malaria, and other mosquito-borne illnesses. This life-threatening disease can progress rapidly, causing severe pain, high fever, and organ failure, leaving little time for treatment in areas with limited medical resources.

Tragically, in countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar, nearly half of those who died were children. In response, GCP and our partnered ministries are working diligently to combat waterborne illnesses by providing mosquito nets in these simple yet life-saving tools that prevent bites during the night, when the risk is greatest. Each net costs just $7 and can mean the difference between life and death.

Please prayerfully consider giving toward this urgent need to support our brothers and sisters suffering through this monsoon season, and in preparation for the next season as well.
