Nigeria: Persecution Against Christians Continue

As many Christians around the world prepared to celebrate the birth of Christ, our brothers and sisters were mercilessly attacked for their faith. Northern Nigeria has become one of the most dangerous places for Christians to practice their faith. The persecution in this region is extreme, with Christians enduring violence, theft, kidnapping, and physical, sexual abuse, and death. Most of these attacks have been at the hands of the Islamic extremist terrorist group Boko Haram.

Horrifically, it has been reported that over 50,000 Christians have been killed in the last 14 years in Nigeria since the outbreak of this group. GCP was recently sent news of their latest attack, which is known as “Black Christmas.” From December 23rd to the 30th, 30 communities stood helplessly as Boko Haram destroyed their homes and killed over 238 people. These attacks have left hundreds of people displaced, injured, and loved ones murdered. Worst of all, Boko Haram will most likely not face any consequences for their actions. GCP and our missionaries in Nigeria are encouraging these families by distributing relief items. Each family received a relief package full of plenty of food items and other necessities. Not only were these families incredibly grateful for this package, but this relief was also a way to restore and strengthen their faith in the Lord during this painful time. Here is a direct quote from our missionary:

“The families were all grateful for the love and support shown to them. We are grateful to our partner, Global Commission Partners, for supporting and providing funds for this project. We pray for God's blessings on the hands of all supporters of GCP USA!”

Please pray that the Lord will protect and bring justice to the Church of Nigeria.
