Eritrea: A New Supported Country
Ethiopian Ministry leader, brother Getachew (third from the left), with missionaries in Eritrea.
Eritrea is an eastern African country bordering Sudan and Ethiopia. With a population of 3 million people, only 2.6% identify as evangelical Christians.
According to Open Doors USA, Eretria is currently one of the most difficult countries in the world to follow Christ. Evangelical Christians faced extreme
persecution from the government in the last year alone. The government encourages spying on Christians in order to arrest them or insight violence.
In 2022, hundreds of Christians were arrested for their faith. As a more extreme punishment, many people were sent to the front lines of the Tigray war as punishment for their faith. It was reported that thousands of men, women, and even young teenagers were sent off to die.
Therefore, GCP has partnered with missionaries working in an Eritrean refugee camp located in Ethiopia. An estimated 4,000 Eritreans live in this camp, and our four missionaries are working hard to share the Gospel. On top of this, the missionaries are planning to visit another refugee camp and have started an underground ministry in Eritrea. These missionaries have worked around the clock to show the love of Christ to the thousands of people in need. They continue to work despite limited resources and little support for their own daily needs. Our missionary leader shares that their primary needs are financial support for the ministry and more Bibles to distribute to the refugees.
Please consider helping our missionaries to continue doing the Lord’s work in Eritrea.
