Myanmar: The Effect of the Conflict on Ministry

The conflict in Myanmar continues and has shown no sign of letting up. Since the coup this past February, more than 750 people have been killed in clashes between protestors and the military. GCP has extensive work throughout Myanmar, much of which has been affected by the fighting. One of our main focuses in the country is the various orphanages we support.

One of the leaders of these orphanages wrote to us, “I’m worried about the education of our children. With last year’s pandemic and now the constant bombing, shooting, and fighting in and near schools, this will be the 2nd year that many of our children receive no education. Only about 10% of students have been allowed to return to schools because of the ongoing violence.” Additionally, ministries are having trouble withdrawing funds from the banks because the government has limited the amount of money that can be obtained to only about $200 per week. This has affected how quickly GCP can send help to our various partners. Finally, GCP had started construction of a much needed Rescue center for girls who have been victims of the sex trafficking prior to the conflict. But fortunately despite the situation, construction has been able to continue. Please pray for GCP’s work, our partners, and that God will bring peace to this country.

Please pray that God will protect the children of this country from the current conflict and that they will be able to return to school soon.
