Pakistan: Freedom for Modern-Day Slaves!
In Pakistan, the second largest Islamic country in the world with 235 million Muslims, Christians are given the worst jobs. Today, more than 4 million people are essentially modern-day slaves. 90% of these modern slaves are Christians. Adults up to 70 years old and children as young as 7 work 12 to 14 hours making between 1,500 and 2,000 bricks a day for less than $5. But how does this happen? In these brick fields, Muslim owners take advantage of the rainy seasons when our brothers cannot make bricks and offer them loans with interest rates so high that they can never repay. Christians, unable to feed their children, are forced to take these loans. The children inherit these debts, and in this way, Muslims create a cycle of slavery that go on from generation to generation.
At Global Commission, we are fighting to free families trapped in this slavery. Our Pakistani missionary partners work closely with those in the brick kilns who need the Gospel, and they strengthen our faith family. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Global Commission has already freed 25 Christian families from slavery this year alone by fully paying off their debts. Additionally, they are provided with a fruit and vegetable cart so that they can support themselves and never have to return to those fields. With these earnings, they can better contribute to their congregations to continue advancing the Gospel!
The mission of freeing our faith family from this situation is important to Global Commission. Please consider praying about helping with whatever the Lord places on your heart, to free more Christians from this terrible situation.
